found out there is a warrant out for felony misuse of credit card for me in ohio, however, i have never lived there, been there, nor do i know anyone that lives there. i definitely didnt do the crime!!!! called and was confirmed that a warrant is in my name, however i talked to someone about how it is ID theft, and how i have proof of living in a totally different state, in another part of the country. some secretary told me that i need to come there and turn myself in, but when i talked to someone else they told me to just talk to someone in fraud/theft and they will try to straighten it out so i wouldnt have to (live in louisiana). i am also pregnant, so i don’t want to go there and have to go to jail since i am almost 7 months along!! scared out of my mind!! should i just go to a lawyer and see what (s)he can do??? not sure where to go. filed a report with ftc.gov and fraud alerts. should i have to turn myself in when i didnt do it??
i did place fraud alerts on my credit report (got one after i found out about the warrant). and found 2 address in ohio, i’ve never lived there nor know anyone who has. and am working on getting that straight too…. worried because i dont want to go to jail when i didn’t do anything wrong, esp that!!!! not because i did it!

I always thought it was a problem that happened to other people. I put a fraud alert on my SSN and credit report but do I actually call the cops on the person doing it?

I’ve heard that identity theives even steal teen’s identities making their credit bad without them realizing. I am a concered teen worried if my credit score is bad and/or somebody has stolen my identity. I’ve been to several credit report websites and am unable to find one that allows people under 18. Do you know of a website to solve either of my questions?

I pulled my credit report through a company called Identity Guard and in it it contains background information and according to that I was arrested and charged for drug posession a felony in the state of Arkansas I have never even been to Arkansas and that definately was not me I live in Ohio. I dont know what to do to find out if this is a mistake on the part of Identity Guard or if someone has stolen my Identity. I called Identity Guard but am just getting the run around from them and my local police department will not help me until I can prove this is really listed under my social. I am going for a great job interview on Saturday and am afraid I wont even be called back If this does show up on my background check. Arkansas is not a public information state and they want you to pay for everything. I dont know where to begin Please Help!!!

My ex-wife gave someone else enough information to pull my credit report, on her behalf, through the service freecreditreport.com. FCR sent me a notice in the mail, which is how I found out about it. I already have gone into my account to change passwords, etc… and shut down access.
The issue is this. She did this in 2005, when we were going through our divorce. I challenged her on it and she claimed she had a guy friend who was a Private Investigator and he must have done it in his zeal to help her. This time, she denies having anything to do with it. However, you need to know a lot about a person’s credit history to gain such access.
What is interesting this time is that they used a Discover card to gain credit authorization to check my credit report. This is good as I have an electronic record of the breach.
But my ultimate question has to do with government reporting. My guess is that accessing someone else’s credit is a serious crime. Since I have already given my ex a Get-Out-Of-Jail free card on this exact matter, I’m of a mind to defend my information to the fullest extent possible this time around. Therefore, I need to know to whom I can report the breach of this information.

I know I can check my own credit report once a year for free by going to annualcreditreport.com or by going to each company’s website. However, I keep hearing that I should monitor my children’s credit reports for fraud and ID theft too. How do I check theirs legally?

To make a long story short, I had a merchant credit card processing account setup through the original creditor, Cardservice International, approximately 4 years ago. During that time I only made a few charges using the account. They were large charges and totaled just over ,000 altogether. These charges were never deposited into my bank account and I was contacted by a man working with their fraud management department. He wanted me to send out products before receiving the funds so I did not agree and I stopped using the merchant account. I also contacted my bank to block their access to my checking account.
Now they have hired the collection agency Allen & Associates on their behalf to collect the ,000 that they never gave me in the first place! I’ve obtained former bank statements from Wachovia and spoken to a branch manager. I attempted to send this information to Allen & Associates, but the agent on the phone refused to provide me with a fax number where I could send documents to dispute this debt and told me that I should just get an attorney because they will sue me. They did "claim" that a representative from Wachovia will be present to testify that the deposits were made so tomorrow I plan to bring the list of supposed deposits into a branch to get a certified letter from a branch manager stating that they were not. This invalid debt for ,000 is also on my credit report as of right now. I’ve disputed it and it was removed at one point, but it appears that A&A has reported it again.
I need to legal advice on how to proceed. I’ve tried to dispute the debt, but obviously they will not allow me to even show them the documentation I have to support my claims. If I do file a suit against them do I file against the CA or the original creditor?

I found out AFTER my husbands last two deployments that money was owed to a couple of different companies. I called the companies and my husbands parents had used his ssn to open the accounts. My husband had no idea about them and was in basic training at the time. I have to go through the police department where the bills took place. Which happens to be 16 hours away. The police department really isn’t very helpful but the companies are telling me until I send them a police report they can’t flag the two things on our credit report. What am I suppose to do. We don’t have the money to pay for them nor do we want to I feel if we do its saying that we did it and we didn’t please help!
I understand what it does to our credit which is why we are trying to clear it. As for recording stuff and demanding from his parents fat chance. I am trying to get a police report but the police department is not helping.
Do you know if I can go to the police department in the town that i am in? Right now I do not have the time to drive 16 hours.

I want to report the identity theft based on my credit report. But the police officer of Westminster Police Department in California said that she can not take my report because credit report is not a document for filing a report. Is it correct?

About a year ago my mother started getting cards in my name just knowing my SSN (I was about 20 at the time). she obviously never planned on me finding out but I did a credit report and confronted her and she basically had a break down. But she never really started paying it.
I'm still quite close to my mother but I want to know if theres a way to use a lawyer or something to get those debts transfered to her officially or basically get it off me and on to her without having to get her thrown in jail.
I am pretty confident she would pay it and get he money together if they started actively coming after her, just right now all thats happening is me getting calls a couple times a day from bill collectors.

I had a relative use my info to obtain a credit card in my name and they put themselves on the card as an "authorized user". They have had this account open since March and I just now found out. I got a copy of my credit report from all 3 agencies and seen that nothing else has been going on except for they applied for another credit card that was denied the same day that they were approved for the one they got. They kept the account in good standing (though that is besides the point). I closed the account, changed the contact info and also password protected it. I confronted them about it and they apologized but said they were in a tight and needed a credit card for gas/bills and could not get approved themselves. They agreed to pay back the current balance. Anyway, I am undecided on what to do, I don't want to see them in trouble but I do want them to learn a lesson. What is the statute of limitations on identity theft in Texas incase I do decide to file charges?
Thanks.

I am a victim of identity theft but caught it years too late because I did not check my credit report. I’ve been reviewing my report this last week and on one of the reporting agencies is a judgment for a debt that I did not make. I have already disputed the items, filed a police report, and contacted the companies.
What do I need to do about this judgment? I have no idea what it is or what to do or who to contact or where to begin.

im a victim, but ive done all the damage control possible in terms of bank accounts and credit reports. im still wondering what other atrocities the thief could be planning against me.
if my credit report is flagged and he or she tries to apply for a cell phone, medical insurance, or book a flight — will i be notified?
is that credit report alert only a defense against fiscal fraud or all cases of identity theft?

I have two identity theft accounts. Someone use my social security number to apply for SBC and Direct TV. I never receive bills from them. When I found out about these accounts, they already shown as collection on my credit report. These have negative effect on my credit. I called up the collection agency for SBC and told them this is not my account. They are not willing to remove me. I have called up Federal Trade Commission and reported these. They couldn't do anything about this. I have try to consult free legal aids, they didn't make any reply!!! How can I remove these identity theft accounts?
