The Great Depression is a difficult time in America. Many people are affected by economic conditions that are beyond their control. These conditions bring us the lack of jobs, losses of homes, and hunger for money, businesses, and loneliness. Due to these difficulties, every person feels alone. I left my family because the lack of money. I went to California. I start working in a farm where every body had the same problem as I.
I met one of the farm workers his name is George. George is nice, honest and friendly person. He said that he had friend his name was Lennie. He said that they came to this ranch to earn some money. Their dream was to have their own little place, to be able to do what they want and what they can do on that land. George and Lennie share this dream with the other of the farm workers Crooks and Candy. George and Lennie's friendship ends when George kills Lennie himself. Everyone's American dream died with him.
Candy Imagines his past, that he had a true friend in the world, which could not even talk, he stayed a true companion until has last breath, even it was an animal but he let somebody else to kill it. He regrets that he should still have it. Also he hoped that these friends could be George and Lennie, that he could share his secrets with, but after his dog, Curly's wife, and Lennie's deaths, he no longer has this. First, he thinks that he should not kill his dog. If one day he owns a farm, he could let his dog in his farm, his dog would not bother anybody. He feels alone, as he is handicapped, he cannot be his own boss. He will just stay quiet and sad under Curly's order without his dog and Lennie.
After killing Lennie, George lost his motivation. He is not able to work as hard as he could before. Also, he lost the fulfillments of friendship. He feels guilty that he did not fulfill what he promised to Aunt Clara, that he would take care of Lennie. As George told Lennie, "If I was by myself, I could do whatever I want," but George actually thinks
that Lennie was an honest companion. First, Lennie had the dream to own a little land so he can have some rabbits and they could work for themselves. Lennie was the one who give George the strength of quickness, emotion, and the ability of friendship. So George feels lonely, he remembers his childhood friend like a brother. He works in ranches. Some time he thinks that he should not killed Lennie. He tells Candy and Crook that Lennie did not kill Curly wife on purpose, due to his mental disability he cannot control his power, when he pets some soft thing he does not feel like he is doing a wrong job. Also Candy tells George that it was not Lennie fault because Curly wife’s knew that Lennie is like a child and he has mental problem, first he broke Curly hand then he had dead Puppy in front of him, she should realized that Lennie could be danger for her. Crooks thinks that he should told Curly wife that Lennie had mental disability, to stay away from him. Now in the ranches George keeps rabbits, puppies to remember has best friend Lennie, he pets them softly but he does not kill them. After Lennie death George feels kindness for Candy and Crooks. He calls Crook to the bunkhouse. George asks Slim for Crooks that he could stay in the bunkhouse. Since Slim knows George’s honesty, he let’s Crook in the bunkhouse.
As Curly is the second boss of the ranches, he feels jealous of George. He is not fraud of himself as he was. First Lennie broke his hand he could not save it from Lennie, George came to save him from Lennie. Lennie killed his wife. Before he kills Lennie, George does his job, and now George brings Crooks to the bunkhouse. He tells George that how you could stay with these two people. One is black and the other one is old, nobody even wants to talk with them. George tells Curly that we all are the same. We all are human beings. No matter, what color people have or what age they have. George tells Curly that here in the ranches every body has the same problem. He tells that Crook lost his back accidentally, Candy lost his hand and you lost your hand too. So you should not feel better then rest of us. Curly realize that George is an honest person. He thinks about all his workers, who work in the ranches. First, he thinks about Crooks, he lost his childhood happiness, Candy lost his dog even it was animal but was close to Candy then a human, Lennie lost his aunt, George lost his best companion who was to him as brother. Also Curly thinks about himself, that he had a beautiful wife’s who needed love from him, but he never give her the feeling loved, he lost her. From all events Curly learns that Friendship and human interaction are two very valuable things, and that having them is as much as a right as it is a privilege, that we much treasure as it keeps us away from loneliness. George tells every body that in this ranch it is important to feel wanted. Loneliness is not something that anyone wants to feel. Every person should also have goals and dreams, and they should be able to talk about them without someone telling them it will not happen. It is essential that everyone has something to look forward to in life and knows that there are people that do care about what happens to them. Now in the ranch Curly is the same like Candy and Crooks. Crooks plays card in the bunkhouse, Curly decide with Candy for every plan in the ranches. George pats the rabbits and puppies to remember his best friend.
