If you get money from insurance company and don't use it for repairs, is that fraud?

An insurance company paid a claim on roof damage, but the homeowners sold the house before the roof was repaired. Do they have to pay that money back to the insurance company?


Is it insurance fraud to submit a high estimate to the insurance company but then get repairs somewhere else?

A friend’s parents had roof damage from a hail storm and got an initial estimate of ,000 and submitted that to the insurance company. They got the insurance check already, but now they found someone else who will do it for ,000 instead. Can she go with the cheaper place and pocket the extra?
